MEMBER-TIES-LOGO

Kewarra has recently joined the “International Society of Eco tourism”

Based in Washingon DC and established in 1990, TIES Unites conservation, communities, and sustainable travel, TIES promotes responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people. Kewarra Beach Resort is immensely proud to be a participating member of this fraternity.

Kewarra Beach will be visited by two well-known figures in U.S. sport-fishing circles:

In mid-October, Kewarra Beach will be visited by two figures well-known in U.S. sport-fishing circles: Doug Olander, editor in chief of Sport Fishing magazine, and Patrick Sebile, whose company, Sebile USA, is a major manufacturer of fishing lures.

They will be headed up to Lizard Island to fish with Damon Olsen’s Nomad operation (www.nomadsportfishing.com.au) for a week at remote Jewell Reef. There, the pair will have the chance to cast lures to giant trevally and dogtooth tuna the size of major appliances as well as a host of other game fish that prowl these reefs.

The pair hope to accomplish two goals, Olander says. “The first objective will have me helping Patrick test his Sebile lures (www.sebileusa.com), both existing designs and prototypes of new models. There is probably no place on earth for such a tough testing ground equal to the northeasternmost tip of Australia. Olander says they hope to determine which lures are most effective for which species and also ensure that they can withstand the most severe pressure game fish can dish out (with both giant trevally and dogtooth among the meanest bad boys in any ocean).

Their second goal, Olander says, will be for him to come away with lots and lots of spectacular photos that reflect their spectacular experiences from six days of fishing Jewell Reef, and produce a great feature article for Sport Fishing (www.sportfishingmag.com) .

Yet another objective for the editor will be some free time to enjoy Kewarra Beach and Cairns, he says. “Due to demands back home, we don’t have a lot of surplus time in Oz,” Olander comments. “But I did want to be sure to schedule two or three days in the Cairns area before we head north. I think anyone coming to this area should spend time here; I did a few years ago when I visited before fishing the Gulf of Carpentaria; as one who travels the globe, I rate Cairns one of my favorite of all small cities. And I’m really excited about staying at Kewarra Beach Resort, this trip, since it will mean a world of solitude so close to the city, and also knowing how high it’s rated by tripadvisor.com visitors!”

The feature (which will include Kewarra Beach Resort) from this visit is tentatively scheduled to run in March, next year.

Kewarra Beach Resort is extremely proud to be a supporter of the Far North Queensland Wildlife Rescue.

Each week Far North Queensland Wildlife Rescue will be presenting an interpretive talk about the native wildlife found in our region, its habitat and behaviours. They will also talk about how Wildlife Rescue volunteers help sick, orphaned or injured wildlife. Guests of all ages are welcome to come along and join in this informal chat.

Their 5th concert on Saturady September 19th will prove to be one of their most memorable with the FOUR DIVAS performing. Kewarra Beach Resort featured in Bongusto.de magazine

Karina Beste published an excellent story about “Cuisine in Queensland” in the popular cuisine magazine BONGUSTO.DE. This is a result of Queensland on Stage this year.

Karina writes about popular meals (BBQ, Barramundi, etc) in QLD and she also included Kewarra Beach Resort!!!

Extract from the article…

Australien — Küche Down Under

From the Pastures to the Plate…

Today Kewarra Beach Resort Chefs took their first delivery of meat from the resort’s very own farm in the Snowy Mountains…

Fillet

“The meat is from our farm called Mt. Falcon. It is located in the Upper Murray region near Khankoban — Snow Mountains territory — is 7,000 acres in size, and has a two-kilometre border with the Kosciusko National Park. The cattle are pure Angus, lead a pampered life and are of lower-than-normal fat content”, said Kewarra Beach Resort Owner, Sean Howard.

Last week the chefs prepared a sumptuous 3 course menu hosting a lunch for the Australian Culinary Federation, leaving guests with a little more than just a lasting impression on their guest’s taste buds.

Kewarra Beach Resort took a further step in positioning the resort’s cuisine as a truly remarkable culinary experience, with their premium grade meat taking pride of place on the menu at the Lagoon’s Restaurant within the resort.
